Client Issue
Client was a healthcare distribution company facing challenges with its final mile delivery network for time- and temperature-sensitive medical products. Increasing service level requirements from healthcare facilities, combined with rising transportation costs and tight delivery windows, were putting pressure on margins. Client needed to better understand how to redesign its final mile operations to improve reliability while controlling costs.
Project Approach
- Assessed current final mile delivery network including routing, carrier mix, delivery frequency, and service level performance across key geographies
- Analyzed shipment data to identify patterns in service failures, cost drivers, and capacity constraints
- Benchmarked client’s final mile operations against industry standards for healthcare logistics, including temperature control and chain-of-custody requirements
- Evaluated alternative delivery models including dedicated fleet, hybrid fleet/carrier approaches, and technology-enabled route optimization
- Developed recommendations for network redesign with phased implementation plan and projected cost and service improvements
Client Results
Client was highly successful in growing market share and financial performance. Leveraging our market knowledge and industry contacts we also assisted client in succeeding in markets that they otherwise might not have participated in.
Client implemented redesigned final mile network that improved on-time delivery performance while reducing per-delivery costs. Enhanced temperature monitoring and chain-of-custody protocols strengthened compliance with healthcare distribution requirements.
